A Cornish Estate Wedding - Jenna & Mike

The lovely Jenna & Mike contacted me in 2018 to talk to me about planning and styling their wedding in Cornwall for the following year. I was super excited to hear from them as I was close friends with Jenna’s sister Lownna who was once my neighbour and bestie when I lived in Falmouth, Cornwall many years ago. I therefore knew the family very well and knew this was going to be an incredibly fun wedding!

Jenna & Mike booked me as their wedding planner and stylist as they both have super busy jobs in London and needed someone to pull their ideas together.

I booked the couple in for 18th May 2019 and the planning instantly went into full swing with a road trip down to Cornwall to visit their incredible venue… Bocconoc estate.

Due to the couples busy schedule, I was accompanied by Jenna’s sister Lowenna for the venue consultation. We were blown away as we pulled up to the estate in Lostwithiel Cornwall, this was after we had taken a very bumpy ride in by accidentally missing the main entrance and taking one of the many entrances to the house.

The consultation and venue tour was great and I gathered all the information I needed to start with my plans and styling designs!

Wedding season soon came around ( as it always does… I swear I blink and it’s arrived ) and I was heading down to Cornwall once again with a full load of styling props and decorations and my partner for support as I was about 24 weeks pregnant at this point.

We checked into our room in the house with lovely views over the grounds. The family had exclusive use of the whole house so they could have all their close family and friends staying with them. Across the grounds there were also cottages and a camping field which were filled with many quests who had travelled from all over to stay for the weekend.

One of the many perks of having a wedding at an exclusive use venue is being able to spread the celebrations across the whole weekend. Jenna’s mum arranged a Friday night feast for all the guests staying on site. Complete with a taco van, ice cream bike and traditional Cornish tartan decor in the old stables. This was a great way for the guests to unwind after a day of travelling and prepare for the big day ahead!

I’d had a busy day setting up all the wedding decorations in the marquee so soon hit the hay after enjoying some delicious tacos!

First thing in the morning I headed back to the marquee to add the finishing touches to the table settings. I set the tables with seagrass charger plates, oat linen napkins, tealight holders and gold table number frames filled with fresh foliage. The look was completed with bespoke menus, personalised botanical stationary, stone plates, elegant glassware and amazingly wild Cornish grown flowers. Jenna’s family even made individual pots of home made honey which were put out as wedding favours. The marquee was the cherry on the cake, with botanical panelling and wooden flooring that polished off the rustic Cornish look.

In the morning of the wedding the guests who had stayed on site made use of all the beautiful walks around the estate whilst Jenna was busy in the bridal suite getting ready with her bridesmaids. Jenna is so naturally beautiful and embraced it by letting her gorgeous curls loose and opting for a natural make up look.

The morning flew by and before we knew it all the suppliers were on site finishing set up, I was up in the Dorothy garden setting up the outdoor ceremony and the remaining guests were arriving and enjoying the spring sunshine.

It soon came time for the ceremony and all the guests were seated in the super green and beautiful Dorothy garden. Jenna’s dad walked Jenna with her bridesmaids from the house, past the on site church and though the gardens where live music was playing and Mike was waiting excitingly under a pergola.

The couple said their ‘I do’s’, got covered in wildflower confetti and walked back to the house following a flock of sheep that were being rounded up in a nearby field at the same time! The guests loved this and many sheepy photo bombs were taken!

After the ceremony the guests enjoyed canapes and champagne at the front of the house in some better than expected springtime sunshine. Everyone was in good spirits and making great use of the old school wooden games on the lawn.

Before it was time for the wedding breakfast Jenna and Mike both held a speech outside to their guests, thanking their friends and family and reminiscing how they first met. The couples words were moving. beautiful and emotional and big pregnant hormonal me was a blubbering mess!

It was soon time for the meal which was prepared and served by the amazing South West based Beautiful and The Feast. In between course family and friends did speeches which was a great way of breaking up the meal and a good opportunity to drink more champagne!

After the meal there was a lovely lul as guests walked off their meal and enjoyed watching the day draw in. The views over Bocconoc are simply incredible and the evening light makes them especially stunning. It was a good job the guests were full of delicious food and were re energised as they were in for a huge treat !

To get the evening going the couple had hired in a Cèilidh group. I’m pretty sure every single guest got involved and it was properly one of the most uplifting and energetic weddings I’ve seen.

The wedding was a mix of traditional concepts stripped back to be a laid back, family oriented vibe. There was so much love and joy from Jenna and Mike and their guests. The whole weekend felt like a holiday, even for myself who had worked 3 long days. Great food, great company, great music and great weather!
